Flash lube - when is it needed?

Post by clanless » Sun Sep 09, 2007 7:59 pm

My car is a Vauxhall Astra - it runs fine on unleaded - it was recently converted and has flash lube installed.

Factory converted vauxhall cars do not have flashlube installed.

Is flash lube really necessary one engines that use unleaded?

Any oen tried this 'valve guard' (flash lube alike) that can be bought off ebay?
I let my mind wander for a moment......it never came back

Flash Lube is only needed when valves and valve seat material are in doubt of being soft.Your Astra should be safe as houses without Flashlube , only some of the 2007 range of vauxhalls have an issue.

I use it on my Volvo with a Prins system. Whilst it wasn't stricly necesary I felt it was a good insurance policy for the high mileage I expect to get out of the car. Its now at 180K and still runs sweet so I'm happy.

Could someone answer the same question for me with regards to a '97 BMW 728i (M52 engine).

At the moment I run Forte Gas Treatment with the fuel every so often as this claims to lubricate valve stems and I also try to run it on petrol maybe 5-10 minutes every couple of hours of driving. Do I need to be using any of these measures or using flashlube, or am I babying the car to much? (I claim forgiveness if I am, I come from the world of Supra's where the engines let go every other week  )

Hi Knightkiller, you are a being a little over cautiouse ,your BMW makes a great conversion if done correctly, you dont need to run on petrol during your daily driving. The fact that it should start on petrol before changing to gas is enough.
We have never yet fitted a flashlube to any BMW we have converted,
